Artist's Comments

Based on a stock image by link2097.

Time to create: 27 minutes.

This one was rather tricky - I have difficulties with drawing straight lines freehand - especially lots of parallel lines. Hopefully I will get better with this in the future.

This was made as a request. See the rules for requests here.

Oh, all I did was practice a bit.

And not even all that much, all things considered...

They are very useful, yes. Basically, they allow you to move the mouse pointer in the same way as you would a pencil or brush on paper. Of course, you can't do some special effects you can do when working on paper - but on the other hand, you can do quite a few special effects you can't do on paper in turn. And with the right settings for the brush, airbrush, and ink tools of GIMP, you have a very large range of things you can do with it... And the Undo and eraser functions are, of course, a life saver.

And if you don't have one... Well, Christmas is coming up, and a Wacom Volito2 (the tablet I started out with) costs €50 - so maybe you should drop a few hints... ;)

Yeah, a mistake on paper can't be undone unless you redo it on gimp.
But I have used a mouse since I could use a computer, so I won't need a tablet ;)

Trust me - it's different. And better. There's a reason almost no professional digital painter uses a mouse...

I'm fine with the path tool ^^;
I'm already asking for a Wii for X-mas so I'll ask a tablet for my birthday

thanks it looks cool i also want to learn speed painting btw would you know any resources or websites that would help in learning speed painting
There's actually not all that much to it.

Start practicing with black & white drawings of reference images - but only work 10 minutes on each of them. Once those 10 minutes are over, move on to the next. The first drawings won't look all that good, but the improvements will be rapid and noticeable.

Once you have a good grasp of the basic shapes and forms, you can move on to color paintings.
